The following are some of the basic things you need to know in order to use Photoshop as graphics design software.

Create a New Design

To start a new graphics design project from scratch, follow these steps;

Click on Ctrl+N to open a new Photoshop document. Set its size e.g. to 200x200 pixels (width by height) and click the OK button.

Ensure you use layers for each component of the graphics so that you can work on those components separately by selecting their specific layer from the layer palette under the Dock panel.

Click on the shape or draw tool you want to use.

Left-click and then drag to draw the object.

Click the Move tool (first tool on the Toolbox) to unpick a particular tool.

Click on the Text tool “T” to write text on your graphic work.

Use the move Tool to move objects at will.

Use the paint bucket to apply paint to graphics components.

To save graphics as a particular format, go to File>Save As> and set File type from the “File Type” drop down menu. And then click the Save button.

To create a new layer, click on the “Create a new layer” button under the Layers palette and to work on the new layer, make sure it is the active layer by clicking on it.

To duplicate a layer, right-click on the particular layer and then click on “Duplicate Layer” from the option list and it will be duplicated. You can also use the layer duplication process shortcut keys Ctrl+J.

To delete a layer, right-click on the particular layer and then click on “Delete Layer” from the option list and it will be deleted.
